Sistercare receives Block Grant from Lexington County

Sistercare recently received $26,736 from the Lexington County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to purchase a passenger van.

The van will be used for transportation for battered women and their children from Sistercare’s two Lexington County emergency shelters for appointments, and resources to assist with employment, housing, career training, health care, mental health services, etc.

Accessible, safe transportation allows the shelter residents to move closer to their goals of becoming self-sufficient and living independently and violence-free.

A battered woman.

Nearly one third of American women report being abused by a husband or boyfriend at some point in their lives. Source
